Shhh! Can you hear that?
Listen up!
It is the sound of silence.
A sound that we can’t find in our everyday life, full as it is of words, noises and noisy thoughts.
But Lake Como is full of places ready to give you the quiet you are looking for.
One of these places is right over there, in front of the Residence. Looking attentively in the deep green of the Lecco shore, you will see a building of stone: The Piona Abbey.
The thick vegetation guards the sacred place since the Middle Age, it stares on the farthest point of the Olgiasca peninsula, protected behind its back by the Montecchio promontory, part of Colico territory.
You can arrive to the Abbey by car or by boat, reaching the shore through the lake, approaching this silence paradise guided by the calm rhythm of the waves. Overcoming the gates around the Abbey, you will be welcomed from the written “Silentium”, that invites you to respect the Benedictines’ quiet. Let the sense of peace and spirituality of this place pervade you, enjoy the wonderful landscape of the Como shore whispering or staring in silence. Take a walk into the big garden of the Abbey, listening just the sound of your steps and of the nature around you, surrounded by lawns, cypress-lines and shaded votive caves.
The Monks honour their rule “Ora et Labora” by producing what is necessary to satisfy the needs of the Olgiasca parish, of their missions in Brazil and Africa and also their own needs. The Monks follow millenary recipes to make products you can buy in a dedicated zone of the Abbey. Liquors, tisanes, honey: unique handmade and high-quality products, so that you can take home with you an inimitable piece of the Lario.
